McCarthy Ranchette LLC raises registered Olde English Southdown Babydoll Sheep with an emphasis on health, temperament, structure, maternal ability, sound genetics, and correct breed type.

We maintain multiple bloodlines within our flock, allowing us to thoughtfully select breeding pairs while considering pedigree, structure, health, genetics, temperament, and the strengths of individual animals.

Our flock includes both off-white and black Babydolls. We occasionally offer registered breeding stock, breeding pairs, and companion wethers to approved homes.

About Babydoll Sheep

Olde English Southdown Babydoll Sheep are a small heritage sheep breed descended from the original Southdown sheep of England.

Babydolls are known for their distinctive smiling appearance, manageable size, wool, and generally calm disposition. Their smaller stature makes them popular with small farms, homesteads, orchards, vineyards, and families looking for a more manageable sheep breed.

Although they are smaller than many commercial sheep breeds, Babydolls are still livestock and require appropriate fencing, shelter, nutrition, hoof care, parasite management, and veterinary care.

Most importantly, sheep are flock animals and should have appropriate sheep companionship.


Our Babydoll Breeding Program

Our goal is not simply to produce Babydoll lambs. We want each generation to contribute positively to the breed and to the families and farms that ultimately own our sheep.

When making breeding decisions, we consider:

We maintain multiple bloodlines within our flock so that breeding decisions can be made thoughtfully rather than simply pairing whichever animals happen to be available.

Biosecurity is also an important part of our flock-management program. We use veterinary testing, genetic information, careful purchasing decisions, and ongoing observation to help protect the health of our flock.


Around Our Babydoll Flock

Our flock consists of additional ewes and breeding animals representing multiple bloodlines.

Rather than maintaining animals solely for numbers, we evaluate the qualities each individual brings to our breeding program and make breeding decisions accordingly.


Purchasing a Babydoll Lamb

We want buyers to understand our process before committing to a lamb.

Waiting List

Joining our waiting list does not guarantee or reserve a lamb.

The waiting list allows us to learn what you are looking for and contact you as appropriate lambs become available.

Availability depends on our lamb crop, sex, color, registration eligibility, breeding quality, and the needs of our own breeding program.

We reserve the right to retain lambs for our flock when we believe they are important to the future of our breeding program.


Sheep Need Sheep

Sheep are flock animals and require appropriate companionship.

For that reason, we require our lambs to leave in pairs unless the buyer already owns compatible sheep.

If you are new to sheep, we are happy to discuss appropriate combinations based on whether you are looking for breeding animals, companions, or both.


Going-Home Age

Our lambs generally leave for their new homes at approximately 10–12 weeks of age, depending on their individual development and weaning.

The health and readiness of the lamb always take priority over a predetermined calendar date.


Pickup

Buyers will receive an estimated pickup timeframe as their lambs approach weaning age.

Once a lamb is ready to leave, pickup should be arranged within the agreed-upon pickup period.

Please communicate with us as early as possible if you anticipate a scheduling issue.

Limited delivery within Southern California may occasionally be possible by prior arrangement. Availability and any associated delivery charge will depend on location and scheduling.


Before Your Lamb Goes Home

Before leaving, lambs receive age-appropriate care based on their individual needs and our flock-management program.

Registration

Our Babydoll breeding animals are registered with recognized Babydoll sheep registries, and many of our lambs are eligible for registration with multiple registries.

Registration eligibility depends on the pedigree and qualifications of the individual lamb.

Registered lamb pricing includes registration with up to two eligible registries of the buyer's choice. Additional registrations may be available when the individual lamb qualifies.

We will discuss your lamb's registration options with you so you understand which registries are available and what, if anything, you will need to complete after purchase.

2027 Babydoll Lamb Pricing

Registered Ewe Lambs: $1,200

Registered ewe lambs are sold with applicable registration eligibility and records.

Registered Breeding Ram Lambs: $1,200

Breeding ram lambs are evaluated before being offered as breeding animals.

Codon 171 testing is included for breeding ram lambs, with test documentation available to the buyer.

Companion Wethers: $500

Wethers are castrated males intended as companions rather than breeding animals.

They can be an excellent option for buyers who want Babydolls as pets, companions for other sheep, or additions to a non-breeding flock.
